LSU rises into ESPN’s FPI top 10 after win over New Mexico

The Tigers are rising up the ranks while enjoying a 3-0 stretch.

After its third consecutive win, LSU is trending up in the rating systems. It has risen five spots in ESPN’s Football Power Index, now ranking seventh.

In the SEC, only Alabama and Georgia are ranked higher. The Tigers’ 3-1 record ranks 34th in ESPN’s strength of record. Their schedule is about to get a lot tougher, though. According to FPI, LSU has faced the 68th toughest schedule through four games. LSU’s remaining strength of schedule ranks 10th.

It begins this week, with a road trip to Auburn. It’s a down year for the other Tigers, but LSU never has an easy path through Jordan-Hare.

Following the road trip, LSU will return home to host a Tennessee team that will likely be ranked in the top 10.

The next couple of weeks will tell us a lot about who this team is. LSU’s 3-0 stretch has come amidst the security of its home field. LSU will now leave Baton Rouge for the first time since dropping the opener.
