LSU assistant coach could become head coach for Southern football

Could we see an LSU coach migrate over to Southern?

Southern University now has an open head coaching position available, and LSU’s wide receivers coach and assistant coach Mickey Joseph is “high on the list of candidates”.

As a New Orleans native, Joseph joined the LSU coaching staff at the start of the 2017 season as a wide receivers coach, and he was named assistant head coach in 2020.

He also is considered a Louisiana high school football legend after gaining 20 years of coaching experience and playing quarterback at Nebraska and has been a factor in LSU’s success in past seasons.

The job has been open since former head coach Dawson Odums recently took over the head coaching position at Norfolk State, and since Joseph is in the last year of his deal at LSU, he has become a top candidate for the head coaching position.

It will be interesting to see how this all shakes out as Southern is set to start its fall football season on September 4 against Troy in Alabama.
