LSU adds Nicholls State defensive back transfer

LSU addressed a need at cornerback by adding Nicholls State transfer Darren Evans.

Nicholls State defensive back Darren Evans is headed to LSU after entering the NCAA Transfer Portal in late August. He can begin practicing with the Tigers once he passes his physical.

The move isn’t exactly unexpected, considering that Orgeron recently said on a Zoom call with the media that the team was in search of a player at the position.

“That was the only initial that we have,” he said. “In order for us to sign, we have to have initial scholarship and that was the latest initial scholarship that we have and we’re looking for a cornerback and I think we’re going to use it on a cornerback and it should be happening soon.”

Evans has seen action in 14 games as a starting cornerback, recording 47 tackles and two tackles for loss. He also tied for fifth in the FCS with 15 pass breakups.

He joins a cornerback room with talent including Derek Stingley Jr., Cordale Flott and Eli Ricks.

With the NCAA allowing for the 2020 season to not count toward eligibility, Evans has the chance to play two years with the Tigers in Baton Rouge.
