Los Angeles Lakers reportedly interested in trading for Celtics’ Dennis Schroder in surprising about-face

The irony is hard to miss, but you do what you have to in this league to win.

Could veteran Boston Celtics point guard Dennis Schroder have the last laugh at the Los Angeles Lakers? By now, even casual fans know the story of how the German guard misread the market for his services and ended up instead having to take a bargain, make-good deal with the Celtics.

And recently, we learned that Schroder would have been willing to be a backup for Russell Westbrook after his arrival in Los Angeles, only for the Lake Show to spurn the possibility. Now, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, they are reportedly “really looking at are around the fringes” for moves to save their season after Westbrook’s tenure has gone disastrously with little in the way of assets to resolve the situation.

Speaking on “Get Up,” Woj related that L.A. is after “players like Alec Burks in New York, (or) Dennis Schroder in Boston. Any number of role players, fringe starters that they might be able to cobble together the assets to get.”

With just hours to go before the arrival of the league’s moratorium on trading players this season, we’ll soon see if they are successful — and willing to offer Boston what it takes to part with Schroder (H/T to MassLive’s Brian Robb for the find).
