Michigan State opened the 2021 season with a huge conference road win against the Northwestern Wildcats. The Spartans defense only gave up 21 points in the win.

With over 15 new players, there was a lot for Spartan fans to get used to, especially the new faces.

He was not necessarily a new face, as he was a member of the 2020 recruiting class, but he was not expected to be a starter like he was on Friday night. That ‘he’ is redshirt freshman Cal Haladay, who got one of the to linebacker starting spots to open the season.

Not only did Haladay start, but he made the most of the opportunity he was presented with, having a great first game. He played so well that Pro Football Focus rated him the highest of any Spartan defender.

Look for Haladay to continue making an impact for the Spartans defense.
