Texas is the first unranked team in history to reach the Women’s College World Series finals.
The Longhorns did so in dramatic fashion on Monday evening, defeating No. 6 Oklahoma State in back-to-back games to keep their season alive. Texas handled the first meeting with a 5-0 win over the Cowboys behind a complete game shutout from sophomore pitcher Estelle Czech.
The massive come-from-behind victory came in game two, when the Longhorns were trailing 5-0 at one point. Courtney Day smashed a three-run home run in the fourth inning to keep Texas in the game, then one of the craziest series of events happened on a Bella Dayton single in the fifth inning.
A throwing error by the Cowboys allowed Texas to clear the bases and resulted in an in-the-park home run for Dayton. The Longhorns took a one-run lead over Oklahoma State at this point and never looked back. Hailey Dolcini was then able to close out the game on the mound for the Longhorns.
Texas has been playing with a chip on their shoulder this entire postseason and are more than deserving of this moment. Here’s a look at the best photos from Texas’ doubleheader on Monday.
