Lonzo Ball on DeMar DeRozan: ‘He’s a legend in my area’

The two new Bulls guards were both born and raised in the Los Angeles area.

Not only do the Bulls have two former UCLA Bruins, Lonzo Ball and Zach LaVine, but they also now have two guards in their backcourt from the Los Angeles area.

On top of signing Lonzo Ball this offseason, the Chicago Bulls signed DeMar DeRozan to a three-year, $85 million deal, which became a sign-and-trade with the San Antonio Spurs.

The four-time All-Star joins a stacked backcourt in Chicago alongside Ball, LaVine, Coby White and also free agent acquisition Alex Caruso.

For Ball, who grew up in Chino Hills, California, told the media Friday during his introductory media availability that DeRozan, who grew up in Compton, California, is a ‘legend in my area.’

“I hit DeMar up when he first came over and decided to come to the Bulls, he’s from Compton LA, so he’s a legend in my area and I grew up watching him play. We have a lot of different players doing different things. … I’m excited to just get out there and play with them,” Ball said.
