Longhorns Wire staff predictions for Kentucky at Texas

Check out our expert picks and predictions for the Texas Longhorns last home game of the season against the Kentucky Wildcats.

The final home game of the season for the Longhorns is a must-win if Texas wants to get into the college football playoff. College football experts like ESPN’s Greg McElroy and CBS Sports’ Josh Pate have warned UT fans a second loss could be enough for the committee to keep the Horns out of the postseason tournament.

Many of these warnings have been about the possibility of losing to Texas A&M in the final game. A loss to Kentucky would be catastrophic.

For Longhorn seniors, and probably Quinn Ewers, this is their last regular game at DKR. There should be extra motivation to show out for the Texas fans against the Wildcats.

Kentucky comes in riding a roller coaster of a season. With bad losses to Auburn and Vanderbilt, a great win over Ole Miss and an almost upset of Georgia, it is hard to predict which Wildcats team will show up in Austin.

Whether Texas gets UK’s best shot or not, the Longhorns must win to keep their playoff dreams intact.

Jamie Gatlin’s Prediction:

The Longhorns will finish their home slate with a matchup against Kentucky. So far this season, the Longhorns are 5-1 in conference play and 5-1 at home. The Wildcats will be tasked with stopping an offense led by Quinn Ewers and Matthew Golden. With the Longhorns motivated to end their home season with a win, this will be a tough game for Kentucky.

Final score: Texas 27, Kentucky 10

’s Prediction:

According to multiple credible sources, this is Quinn’s final game as a Longhorn at DKR. I genuinely believe he fulfills his entire potential here, which could pose a significant threat to Kentucky. There are concerns about whether Kentucky can execute flawlessly against a team with limited weaknesses. Kentucky’s offense has been inconsistent, often struggling to score against even weaker defenses.

Final score:  Texas 42, Kentucky 14

Trey Luerssen’s Prediction:

t is Senior Day and a classic trap game before one of the biggest games in recent Longhorns history. But Texas can’t overlook Kentucky, who have upset one of the SEC’s best teams in Ole Miss and came within a point of taking down Georgia as well. Texas has been more solid at home in the second half of the season than on the road. The Horns should take care of business and shake off the Wildcats in the second half.

Final score: Texas 35, Kentucky 17
