Over the last week, Longhorns guard Jordan Pope has been busy writing himself into the record books. Due to his efforts, Pope was named the Southeastern Conference Co-Player of the Week on Monday. It marked his first career weekly league honor.
In the Longhorns’ only game last week, Pope was a human highlight reel. He set a Moody Center single-game scoring record with 42 points, which was also his career high. During his scoring barrage, Pope made 15-of-21 field goals and went 8-of-12 from three-point range. It what has been a stellar start to the season, Pope looked like he couldn’t be stopped against New Orleans.
Additionally, his 42 points were tied for the seventh most in program history. They were the most since Reggie Freeman had 43 during a home win against Fresno State in December of 1996.

Through 12 games, the California native has been one of the Longhorns’ best players. He leads the team in steals with 15 and ranks second in assists with 28. The talented guard also has a 4.67 assist-to-turnover ratio, which has made him a trustworthy option regardless of the opponent.
With the Longhorns hoping to make a deep playoff run, Pope will be a player to watch. He has shown he can lead this offense and is setting himself apart in a talented SEC conference.
