After joining LSU in July, Kade Phillips has flipped his commitment to the Texas Longhorns. The five-star cornerback had committed to the Longhorns before deciding to go to LSU and will now call Austin home. For Texas, this is a huge win as they will be adding one of the best cornerback prospects in the 2025 class.
The Fort Bend Hightower product is ranked as the No.7 cornerback and No. 54 overall recruit in the country by 247Sports’ composite rankings. During the recruiting process, Phillips has also drawn interest from Michigan, Oregon, Ole Miss, Penn State, and Texas A&M. An already star-filled 2025 class has gotten even better for the Longhorns.

With Phillips in the mix, Texas has nine top-100 commitments in its 2025 class. Their class is currently ranked as one of the best in the nation, with only a few schools, such as Alabama and Ohio State, in front of them. The future appears very bright for a program that is only one win away from its first SEC championship.
During his high school career, Phillips was a two-dual threat lining up at cornerback and wide receiver. He showed the ability to come down with contested catches and didn’t shy away from contact. Due to his experience playing safely, Philips was also a threat in the run game during his high school career.
As the Longhorns prepare for the postseason, excitement is building for what the future holds, with Phillips leading the defense.
