The Detroit Lions announced they are signing running back Jonathan Williams and have released running back Wes Hills in a corresponding move.
“Williams comes to Detroit after most recently spending the 2019 season with the Indianapolis Colts,” the Lions said in a press release, “after stints with the New Orleans Saints and Buffalo Bills. He originally entered the League in 2016 with the Bills as a fifth-round draft pick (156th overall) out of Arkansas. In 23 career games (one start), he has recorded 329 rushing yards on 79 carries and two touchdowns.”
At 6-1, 217 pounds, Williams wins with quickness and power. He has always been a high upside player, and had a top-100 grade on most draft boards, but injuries dropped him to the third day and have limited his impact in the NFL. He will immediately challenge Bo Scarbrough for the power role in the Lions backfield rotation.
