Lions devour clock, outlast Rams to gain NFC Divisional Round

The Detroit Lions edged the Rams and gained a home game in the Divisional Round

The Los Angeles Rams ran out of time … and timeouts. The Detroit Lions have their first playoff win in 32 years and another home game.

The Lions defeated the Rams Sunday at Ford Field, 24-23, in an NFC Wild Card game.

They were helped by Sean McVay’s decision to call two timeouts before crunch time in the second half.

Left with the two-minute warning and one timeout, the Rams could not stop the Lions.

The key play was a pass from Jared Goff to Amon-Ra St. Brown for a first down.

The Lions got the ball for the final time with 4:07 left. It took seven plays to run out the clock because the Rams were helpless against the clock.

The Lions will play host to the winner of Monday’s game between the Philadelphia Eagles and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The other NFL Divisional Round game will see the Green Bay Packers at the San Francisco 49ers.
