Lions bye week watch guide and rooting interests

the TV broadcast schedules and who to root for during the bye week

It’s Sunday in the fall but the Detroit Lions aren’t playing. The bye week gives Lions fans a chance to check out some other NFL teams for a change. Here’s who fans can focus on while the Lions lay low for a weekend.

Early games

The Detroit area, and most of the nation, gets treated to the matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and Las Vegas Raiders. That’s the red area in the map below, courtesy of 506 Sports. The blue area, which encompasses the Toledo market, gets the Ravens vs. Bengals on the CBS broadcasts.

If you want to get some NFC action, FOX has the Eagles vs. Steelers game on for most of the country. The red areas get that game.

Late afternoon

Unless you are an NFC East fan, the late-afternoon window is a fantastic time to get things done outside while the weather is still mild. Almost the entire country draws the 1-3 Cowboys against the winless Giants. If you’re a Lions fan watching the draft order as much as the win column, this is a vital game for you and you want the Giants to win.

Sunday night

The only NFC North team in action on Sunday is Minnesota. The Vikings are in Seattle for the SNF game on NBC. If the Vikings win, the idle Lions drop to the bottom of the division.
