Lions and Pistons combine for rare historic wins on Sunday

With their wins on Sunday, the Lions and Pistons pulled off a feat not seen in Detroit since 1973

It’s not been an easy few years to be a Detroit sports fan. None of the city’s four major sports teams have been anywhere close to successful of late. In fact, the Lions, Tigers, Pistons and Red Wings have combined to not produce a season with a winning record amongst the quartet since 2016.

Sunday, December 19th turned into a rare bright spot for the beleaguered Detroit sports franchises. As noted by FOX2 news director Alan Dekelaita, it was a day of historical proportions for the downtrodden Lions and Pistons.

The Lions stunned the visiting Arizona Cardinals, 30-12, at Ford Field to improve to 2-11-1 on the season. A few hours later and a short walk away in downtown Detroit, the Pistons snapped a 14-game losing streak by beating the Miami Heat, 100-90.

The matching double-digit victories don’t happen often. In fact, it hasn’t happened in almost 50 years. The last time the Lions and Pistons each won a game by double-digits on the same day was October 28, 1973.

It’s a nice gift from the Detroit teams to their loyal fans in the final home game for each team before Christmas.
