It feels like years ago.
October 23, 2020. Week 1 of the 2020 Big Ten football season. The first start of Graham Mertz’s career.
At that point in time, Wisconsin seemed unstoppable. Graham Mertz came out of the gate slinging on his way to a 20/21, 248-yard, 5-touchdown performance where he couldn’t do a single thing wrong.
Remember, this was the first time the Badgers were in action after the season was delayed and the first time they were in action since a heartbreaking loss in the 2019 Rose Bowl.
At that point in time, it seemed like Wisconsin was poised for yet another run to the top of the Big Ten West and to the Big Ten Championship.
We all know what happened the rest of that season. But the last time Wisconsin QB Graham Mertz took the field against Illinois? Arguably the greatest quarterback performance the program has ever seen.
No.14 Wisconsin pounds Illinois 42-7 in the Big Ten’s season opener.
QB Graham Mertz goes 20/21 with 248yds and FIVE TDs in his debut! 💪
