Rod Babers was not surprised by Steve Sarkisian’s quarterback decision.
The former All-American cornerback at Texas believes Quinn Ewers didn’t win the quarterback battle because of on-field play, but relationship building.
“He won that job, three, four, five months ago, before all this started, because he won the locker room,” Babers opined.
It’s possible Hudson Card was the more polished decision-maker and knew the offense better than Ewers. Nevertheless, it appears Quinn Ewers built the stronger rapport with his teammates and won with relationships.
Why did Sark name Quinn Ewers the starting QB over Hudson Card? @rodbabers believes it has nothing do with Ewers’ on the field performance, but his relationship with the Texas locker room…@HardballHardge #HookEm

Quarterback battles are often decided by who the team chooses to lead.
When its fourth-and-10 with the game on the line, you want the more poised and improvisational quarterback. No doubt Ewers is that for Texas. More than that, you want the player teammates trust and want to follow to have the football on the final drive.
Texas needs a quarterback is comfortable stepping in and leading the team. Ewers won the starting role when he demonstrated that ability.
