Lee’s Summit locals helping Broncos QB Drew Lock stay in shape

“People like to help the hometown kid,” Broncos quarterback Drew Lock said.

With many gyms closed across the country due to COVID-19, some NFL players are having to turn to unique workout routines to stay in shape (like Broncos linebacker Alexander Johnson bench-pressing logs).

Denver quarterback Drew Lock was with his family in Lee’s Summit, Missouri when gyms started closing their doors but he was able to set up one-on-one sessions with a local trainer. Before parks closed, Lock was also able to some on-field work as well.

“I’ve been with these people since my freshman year of high school. [So] when this all shut down, I gave them a call and I said, ‘If we can keep in the private gym, throw in my backyard, go on the field as long as that lasted here in Missouri, throwing in a private local spot, [let’s do it],'” Lock said during a Zoom conference call on May 5.

“Being in Lee’s Summit, it helped me out because people like to help the hometown kid. I really appreciate this city for doing that for me. I’m still staying up on my throwing regimen and my lifting regimen and hoping I can start throwing to the guys out there eventually.”

Lock wants to get teammates together for some offseason throwing sessions but he’s waiting until it’s “socially responsible” to do so. The Broncos are also hoping that training camp will start on time in late July.
