LeBron James sends condolences to Jeanie Buss after loss of mother

The Los Angeles Lakers franchise and their Governor Jeanie Buss were hit with bad news, which LeBron James recognized on Monday.

The Los Angeles Lakers family was hit with the bad news that the club announced on Monday, related to the Buss family. Late on Monday afternoon, the Lakers announced the passing of JoAnn Buss, the wife of Dr. Jerry Buss and the mother of Lakers Governor Jeanie Buss.

Rather than flowers for the departed, the Lakers are asking for donations to the American Cancer Society or the Lakers Youth Foundation. Shortly after the news broke, LeBron James reached out on twitter to Jeanie Buss and sent a message that “Lakers Nation stands as one” during a difficult time for the Buss family.

Jerry Buss, the previous owner of the Lakers who was married to JoAnn Buss, passed away in 2013.

James and the Lakers have otherwise had a storybook season so far after starting the season with a 24-3 record through the first 27 games. The trade for Anthony Davis and their roster has worked out better than anyone had hoped it would, resulting in both a top-five offense and a top-five defense.
