LeBron James insists Lakers are ready to play ‘as soon as it’s safe’

Doubts that the NBA will complete their season have grown over recent days, but LeBron James is not one of the people harboring those.

It’s starting to become very clear where the lines are being drawn within the NBA community about who wants to resume the season and find a way to crown a champion and those who would rather the league cut its losses and cancel the season. LeBron James obviously counts himself in the former camp, being that he’s working out very hard on a daily basis and his Lakers also had the best record in the Western Conference prior to the NBA’s hiatus. James reiterated that stance after a report came out from CNBC’s Jabari Young, citing that some agents and executives would rather the NBA cancel the season due to safety and liability concerns.

There are obviously a variety of opinions regarding the resumption of the NBA season and some kind of tournament, in either Las Vegas, the Bahamas, or even Walt Disney World, has been floated as a legitimate possibility for a way to conclude the season. James, in his 17th season and on a great team, obviously has a lot invested in finding some way for the NBA to crown a champion. However, as the report from CNBC shows, LeBron’s opinion is not the consensus.

Additionally, there are still several obstacles standing in the way of LeBron and other NBA stakeholders who want to conclude the season. First of all, there needs to be widespread testing and antibody testing available on a national level. Until that happens at the very least, the debate about whether the NBA can return, even in a made for TV event, will continue to go around in circles.
