LeBron James close to passing Kobe as Lakers visit Philadelphia 76ers

LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers will face a shorthanded 76ers squad anchored by LeBron’s protege Ben Simmons.

LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and the Los Angeles Lakers are in Philadelphia where they will face off against Ben Simmons and a shorthanded 76ers squad in a primetime matchup that will be televised this evening on ABC.

With no Joel Embiid available, the showdown between Ben Simmons and LeBron James will take center stage. Anthony Davis, who has played in the last few games, is considered questionable for tonight’s game but he will probably play considering the upward trend he has been on as of late with his health.

The Sixers, in addition to Embiid recovering from finger surgery, recently lost shooting guard Josh Richardson to a hamstring strain for the next couple of weeks. That puts more on Simmons and Tobias Harris, but Simmons, in particular, has done very well in the role. In the last eight games, Simmons is averaging 20.8 points, 9.3 rebounds and eight assists per game while shooting 63.3% from the field, while the Sixers have gone 5-3.

As for LeBron, he’s just 18 points from passing Kobe Bryant for No. 3 on the NBA’s All-Time scoring list. And the Lakers are looking to win their third straight game to close out their five-game Grammy road trip 4-1.
