17. Chicago Bears – DeVonta Smith, WR
Smith is the only junior wide receiver from 2019 to decide to stay for his senior season, Henry Ruggs III and jerry jeudy were the two wide receivers taken in the draft last year, No. 12, 15, respectively.
Smith looks to improve upon a career-best junior season in his senior year, and potentially be a Biletnikoff award winner, the same recognition Jeudy received in 2018 as the nation’s best collegiate pass-catcher.
“You know Mitchell Trubisky is going to play just good enough to get an extension, and depending on what happens with Allen Robinson the Bears could be in the market to add more playmakers at the skill position,” writes Wilson. “In Smith, Chicago would get one of the most polished wideouts in this class, and arguably the best WR on Alabama’s roster last season.”
14. Los Angeles Chargers – Jaylen Waddle, WR
Jaylen Waddle had an immediate impact as a young star within Alabama’s offense. His speed and route running abilities, paired with some of the best hands in college football, make him a very attractive NFL slot receiver.
“This sure looks like Justin Herbert’s offense. And why not give him another downfield weapon to complement Keenan Allen and Mike Williams,” writes Wilson. “Offensive line help makes sense here too but Herbert showed an ability to buy time in the pocket with this athleticism. Jaylen Waddle brings another level of speed and playmaking ability to the field. Added bonus: he can also return kicks.”
