Latest bowl projections have Texas in the College Football Playoff

It’s still very early in the season, but Texas appears to be a legitimate College Football Playoff contender.

After a statement road win over No. 3 Alabama in Week 2, many feel Texas is a legitimate contender for the College Football Playoff.

The Longhorns handed the Crimson Tide their worst home loss under head coach Nick Saban. The 10-point win also marked the first nonconference road win over an AP Top-3 opponent in program history.

Action Network’s Brett McMurphy released his updated bowl projections on Monday and he put Texas in the College Football Playoff against Georgia in the Allstate Sugar Bowl. However, McMurphy believes Georgia and Florida State will reach the national championship game.

In regards to the rest of the Big 12, McMurphy has Oklahoma reaching a New Year’s Six bowl game against USC in the Cotton Bowl.

While the hype surrounding Texas is certainly earned after the way they dominated Alabama, it’s still early in the season and the Longhorns must prove they can play consistent football in order to reach their goals.
