Larry Fitzgerald lacks ‘urge to play right now’

Longtime Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald isn’t ruling out a return later in the season but indicates he doesn’t have the desire to play now.

Arizona Cardinals fans have been waiting anxiously for some sort of announcement from legendary receiver Larry Fitzgerald about his future. Will he officially retire? Will he come back for another season to play for the Cardinals, joining DeAndre Hopkins and A.J. Green to make a legendary receiving trio?

Every single time all offseason he was asked that question, the answer was consistent. He didn’t know.

That has changed. His most recent comments suggest he is probably done in the NFL.

He spoke with Jim Gray on Sirius XM’s Mad Dog Sports and indicated the desire to play isn’t there.

“I just don’t have the urge to play right now,” he said. “I don’t know how I’ll feel in September, October, November moving forward but I just, today, I just don’t have the urge. And I think I have to be respectful of that.”

He didn’t close the door completely on a return later in the year. If the Cardinals are rolling, he could have “the urge” to play again, especially if they were to have an injury at receiver.

So is Larry Fitzgerald going to play? No, at least not for now.
