Projected first-round pick LaMelo Ball was voted the most intriguing prospect in the 2020 NBA draft in a survey of 20 anonymous agents conducted by The Athletic.
Of the 20 agents polled, seven of them named Ball while one said him and another prospect. The group of agents seemed to agree that Ball is the most intriguing prospect because his ceiling is still relatively unknown given his small sample size last season in the National Basketball League.
“With everything considered, the route he took, I just think he’s a guy who people are all over the place on,” one agent said. “He fits the bill as much as anybody ever.”
The 20-year-old was named the NBL Rookie of the Year after averaging 17 points, 7.5 rebounds, seven assists and 1.7 steals in 12 games with the Illawarra Hawks. However, Ball struggled to shoot after converting on just 37% from the field and 24% from 3-point range.
Despite questions regarding his potential, Ball is most commonly projected to be a top-five pick and is in the conversation to be the No. 1 overall pick. He possesses a high level of basketball IQ and is known to be a great facilitator, traits that certainly translate to the next level.
Ball revealed last week that he has only interviewed with the Golden State Warriors and New York Knicks but that can still change ahead of the draft. The Knicks have said to be high on Ball but may have to trade up from No. 8 in order to select him.
The 2020 NBA draft is scheduled to take place on Nov. 18.
