LaMelo Ball joins Larry Johnson with rare stat-stuffing box score for Hornets

In Saturday’s loss to the Sixers, LaMelo Ball’s stat-stuffing effort helped him make franchise history once against for the Hornets.

Against the Dallas Mavericks, LaMelo Ball made franchise history with the best game of his rookie season to date. On Saturday, Ball accomplished another impressive, though not nearly as gaudy, statistical feat.

In the loss to the Sixers, Ball finished with 13 points, five assists, four rebounds, four steals and two blocks. He became the second Hornets player in franchise history with a regular season stat line of at least 10 points, five assists, two steals and two blocks, joining Larry Johnson (h/t Sam Perley, Hornets.com).

It’s not quite as impressive as his 20-point game against the Mavs, but it shows yet again how strong a start Ball is having. Through six games, Ball is averaging 11.5 points, 4.4 rebounds and 4.0 assists while averaging 23 minutes per game.

After his scoreless debut, Ball has reached double figures in scoring in four of the last five games. His performance has been strong enough that a move to the starting lineup could be ahead.
