Lakers waive Quinn Cook, LeBron thanks him and Danny Green for title run

The Los Angeles Lakers waived Quinn Cook, who had a non-guaranteed contract going into the season.

The Los Angeles Lakers backcourt continues to be under construction after the addition of Dennis Schröder from Oklahoma City. While they are likely to lose Rajon Rondo to a bigger offer elsewhere and Avery Bradley is considering opting out of the final year of his contract, the Lakers made a move of their own to create more roster flexibility heading into Friday’s start of free agency.

The Lakers waived reserve guard Quinn Cook on Thursday morning, according to a new report from Brad Turner of the Los Angeles Times. Cook appeared in 44 of 71 regular season games, which included eight seeding games in the Orlando bubble. Cook also appeared in 6 games during the Lakers run to the 2020 championship.

Cook was a major part of the locker room and was frequently seen with LeBron James and Anthony Davis throughout the season. Cook was heading into the season without a guaranteed contract, though he did get $1 million guaranteed. LeBron retweeted a thank you from the Lakers organization to Cook and Danny Green, who was part of the Schröder trade.

Cook is now an unrestricted free agent. Despite a down year shooting the ball, Cook remains a 40% career 3-point shooter.
