One year and one day after the tragic death of Kobe Bryant and seven others in a helicopter crash, the Los Angeles Lakers return to the city where they were before the tragedy as they are back in Philadelphia where LeBron James passed Kobe Bryant for 3rd on the NBA’s All-Time scoring list.
With all the reminders of tragedy around, the Lakers have a massive game to play and arguably the toughest game on their road trip against the best team in the Eastern Conference so far this season. The 12-6 Philadelphia 76ers appear to be revived after making some massive changes in the offseason, hiring executive Daryl Morey and new head coach Doc Rivers to shepherd their young squad.
The Sixers push the pace more than they did last season and they added more shooting, by essentially swapping Al Horford and Josh Richardson for Danny Green and Seth Curry, while their defense has been a top-five unit this season. They’re coming off a loss to Detroit without Joel Embiid, who is expected to play tonight against the Lakers. In addition to Embiid’s MVP level play, Tobias Harris is having a career season.
