Lady Vols win College World Series’ opening-game versus Alabama

Tennessee softball wins College World Series’ opening-game versus Alabama.

No. 4 Tennessee (50-8, 19-5 SEC) defeated No. 5 Alabama (45-21, 14-10 SEC), 10-5, Thursday in the Women’s College World Series at USA Softball Hall of Fame Stadium – OGE Energy Field in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

The Lady Vols recorded 11 hits in the contest.

Tennessee led, 4-0, in the second inning with two outs. Katie Taylor and Zaida Puni each hit two-run doubles.

Alabama scored two runs in the third inning.

Jamison Brockenbrough hit a two-run home run in the third inning for the Lady Vols.

Tennessee scored four runs in the fourth inning, extending its advantage to 10-2. Rylie West hit a three-run home run and McKenna Gibson hit an RBO double.

Alabama scored two runs in the fifth inning and one run in the sixth inning.

Ashley Rogers (19-1) pitched three innings for Tennessee, allowing two runs, three hits and three walks, while recording one strikeout.

Payton Gottshall earned her third save of the season. She pitched four innings, allowing three runs and four hits, while recording one strikeout.
