Lady Vols win 2023 SEC Tournament softball championship

Lady Vols win the 2023 SEC Tournament softball championship.

No. 1 seed Tennessee (44-8, 19-5 SEC) defeated No. 10 South Carolina, 3-1, in the SEC Tournament championship game Saturday at Bogle Park in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

Payton Gottshall started and pitched five innings for Tennessee, recording two strikeouts. She totaled 93 pitches (62 strikes) against 18 batters.

The Lady Vols await the announcement of the NCAA Tournament field. The NCAA Tournament selection show is slated for Sunday at 7 p.m. EDT and will be televised by ESPN2.

NCAA Tournament regional play is scheduled for May 19-21. A Thursday-Saturday format will be used for teams with a no-Sunday-competition policy.

Super regionals will take place May 25-27 (Thursday-Saturday) and May 26-28 (Friday-Sunday). The College World Series is scheduled for June 1-9 at USA Softball Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
