Tennessee (19-5, 11-2 SEC) will host a regional in the NCAA women’s tennis tournament.
The Lady Vols are a No. 15 overall seed and will host the first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament for the eighth time in program history, and the first time since 2011.
Tennessee will play Southeast Missouri (17-2) in the first round at 4 p.m. EDT on Friday at Barksdale Stadium.
Arizona State (17-6) and Wake Forest (17-13) will play at 1 p.m. EDT on Friday.
The winner of both matches will advance to play on Saturday at 4 p.m. EDT.
“The University of Tennessee is all about winning, and our entire athletic department’s goal is to simply be among the few who are competing for championships,” Tennessee head coach Alison Ojeda said. “As a coaching staff, we decided to meet with the team to discuss exactly what we needed to do in order to be in a position to host the first two rounds of the tournament. We haven’t talked about that meeting because we didn’t need to. The team had the white board with that information sitting right next to the door in the locker room.”
“Today, we learned that, as a team, we did what was needed and now we are hosting. They earned this opportunity, now it is time for us to take advantage of it.”
