Lady Vols suffer first loss in 2023

Tennessee suffers first loss of the season at SMU.

SMU (1-1, 0-0 AAC) defeated No. 25 Tennessee (3-1, 0-0 SEC), 2-1, Sunday at Washburne Track and Soccer Stadium in Dallas, Texas.

The Mustangs led, 1-0, after Nya Rose scored in the 22nd minute. Mackenzie Rudden was credited with an assist on the goal.

Sizzy Lawton tied the game for the Lady Vols in the 42nd minute.

The Mustangs scored its final goal in the 84th minute by Eliana Salama.

The Lady Vols outshot SMU, 15-8, while leading the Mustangs, 12-2, in corner kicks.

Goalkeeper Ally Zazzara started for Tennessee and played the first half. She was relieved by Abby Reisz after halftime. Zazzara had two saves, while Reisz recorded one.
