Lady Vols soccer ties Kentucky

A recap of the Lady Vols’ soccer match at Kentucky Saturday

LEXINGTON — The University of Tennessee women’s soccer team played Kentucky to a 1-1 draw Sunday at the Wendell and Vickie Bell Soccer Complex.

The Lady Vols (2-2-1, 2-2-1 SEC) scored first when junior defender Abbey Burdette tallied in the second minute of the match.

Claudia Dupasupil picked up an assist on Tennessee’s marker.

The Wildcats (0-3-2, 0-3-2) pulled even in the sixth minute on a goal by Julia Grosso. That marker was unassisted.

After that, the two respective goalkeepers took center stage.

Tennessee’s Lindsey Romig, the reigning Southeastern Conference Player of the Week, made seven saves in the match.

Kentucky’s Brooke Litman made made six stops. The Lady Vols outshot Kentucky, 22-16, in the match.

Next up for Tennessee is a showdown with Texas A&M Friday at the Regal Soccer Complex. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. EDT.
