Lady Vols open volleyball season Friday

LEXINGTON — The University of Tennessee volleyball team will open its 2020 season at Kentucky this weekend.

Kentucky begins the campaign ranked No. 3 in the country.

Tennessee and Kentucky will play twice this weekend with the series getting underway Friday at 7 p.m. EDT.

The two rivals will meet again Saturday at 7 p.m. EDT.

Friday night’s season opener will be televised on the SEC Network. Saturday’s match will be aired on SEC Network+.

This season, Southeastern Conference teams will each play a conference-only schedule. Each team will have eight matches, which will be played over six weeks.

Teams will also play two-match series on back-to-back nights.

The format will permit teams to be flexible as they monitor developments related to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Lady Vols will host its first home series Oct. 28-29 when they entertain Georgia.

That series follows a BYE week.
