Tennessee had its six-match Southeastern Conference winning streak snapped Thursday night as it suffered a road loss.
Despite outshooting Vanderbilt by a 21-7 margin, the No. 10 Lady Vols fell to 2-1 before an announced crowd of 812 in Nashville.
Tennessee (13-2-0, 6-2-0 SEC) never led in the match as the Commodores (7-7-2, 4-3-1 SEC) opened the scoring on a goal by Abi Brighton in the 13th minute. Her marker was assisted by Amber Nguyen.
Vanderbilt, which eliminated the Lady Vols from the 2020 SEC Tournament, held a 1-0 advantage at halftime.
The Lady Vols pulled even when Mackenzie George tallied an equalizer in the 49th minute. It was George’s third maker of the 2021 season and assisted by by Abbey Burdette.
The Commodores’ Peyton Cutshall scored the eventual game-winner early in extra time as she tallied in the 95th minute. Raegan Kelley was credited with an assist on the final marker of the match.
