Lady Vols fall to Georgia in extra innings

Recapping Lady Vols’ loss to Georgia Sunday.

Despite out-hitting No. 21 Georgia (29-14, 7-11 SEC), the Lady Vols dropped an extra-inning game to the Bulldogs Sunday at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium, 11-8.

No. 17 Tennessee had the potential winning run on third base in the bottom of the eighth, but could not score.

Georgia won the game in the top of the ninth on a three-run homer by Jayda Kearney.

The Lady Vols (35-8, 8-7 SEC) could not score in their half of the frame, but overcame an 8-3 deficit with five unanswered runs to force the game into extra innings.

Ashley Morgan had a pair of two-run doubles for Tennessee, including one that tied the game, 8-8 in the fifth.

Morgan went 6-for-10 during the weekend set and helped the Lady Vols win its third consecutive conference series. Tennessee out-hit Georgia, 11-9, in Sunday’s contest.

Kearney’s game-winning blast was one of three home runs for Georgia. Ellie Armistead and Lacey Fincher also had homers in the series finale for the Bulldogs.
