Tennessee entered Thursday’s night’s Southeastern Conference game against Georgia having won eight of its last nine basketball games,
The Lady Vols also entered the contest with an unblemished conference record and had just cracked the AP top 25, debuting at No. 23.
A 10-minute stretch derailed Tennessee against Georgia as it dropped a 67-66 decision at Thompson-Boling Arena.
It was the Lady Vols’ (8-2, 2-1 SEC) first loss to Georgia at home since 1996 when UT head coach Kellie Harper was a player on Rocky Top.
“Obviously disappointed in the outcome,” Harper said after the Lady Vols squandered a 15-point halftime lead. “You have to play every single night and you have to play for 40 minutes.
“You can’t just play for 30 minutes and expect to get a win.”
The Lady Vols, who held a 40-25 advantage at halftime, received 15 points from Rennia Davis. Tamari Key added 14, while sophomore guard Jordan Horston finished with 11 points.
The Bulldogs (11-1, 3-1 SEC), who managed to tally just eight points in the second quarter, outscored Tennessee 28-9 in the third frame.
