Tennessee’s women’s basketball team closed out its regular season on a high note Sunday.
The No. 20 Lady Vols clinched a No. 3 seed in the upcoming Southeastern Conference Tournament with a dominant, 88-54, victory over Auburn at Thompson-Boling Arena.
Tennessee (15-6, 9-4 SEC) will now have a double-BYE in the tournament and will return to action Friday at 8:30 p.m. EST against an opponent to be determined.
Against the Tigers (5-18, 0-15), five UT players posted double figures in the scoring column.
The Lady Vols held Auburn to eight points over the first 10 minutes and opened a 31-21 advantage by halftime.
Two UT players had double-doubles. Guard Jordan Horston narrowly missed pulling off the feat as she finished with 12 points and nine assists.
Rennia Davis led the Lady Vols with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Kasi Kushkiuah scored 19 points and recorded eight rebounds.
Rae Burrell scored 14 points, while Tamari Key scored 10 and grabbed 10 rebounds for Tennessee, which led 56-37 after three quarters.
