The Lady Vols had to erase an early deficit on the road Sunday afternoon to capture their first Southeastern Conference series sweep of the 2021 season.
Tennessee, ranked No. 18 in the country, notched a 2-1 comeback victory over Auburn at Jane B. Moore Field. Tennessee has now won four consecutive SEC series, and with the win Sunday, the Lady Vols (38-8, 11-7 SEC) won three consecutive low scoring contests against the Tigers (26-19, 6-15 SEC).
Tennessee fell behind, 1-0, in the bottom of the first inning as starting pitcher Callie Turner surrendered an RBI single to Auburn designated player Lindsey Garcia.
Turner, who picked up the win in the circle Saturday night, did not pitch past the second inning.
Junior Ashley Rogers entered the contest and posted a solid performance in relief.
Rogers (22-6) pitched in all three games during the series, recording a pair of wins and a save. She pitched six innings in the series finale, giving up one hit and striking out six.
The Lady Vols scored both of their runs in the top of the fourth inning when Ivy Davis came up with a two-run double that plated Josie Willingham and Ally Shipman.
Next up for Tennessee is an SEC doubleheader at Mississippi State on Wednesday.
First pitch for the first game is slated for 2 p.m. EDT in Starkville, Mississippi State.
The Lady Vols had a three-game set postponed in early April due to COVID-19 concerns within the UT program.
