Lady Vols defeat Lipscomb and advance in the NCAA soccer tournament.

Taylor Huff scored a goal and recorded one assist to lead Tennessee to victory in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

The No. 6 Lady Vols, making their first tournament appearance since 2018, defeated Lipscomb, 3-0, Friday at Regal Soccer Stadium before an announced crowd of 1,868.

Tennessee (19-2-0), who won the SEC East for the second consecutive season and claimed the SEC Tournament championship, posted its 12th shutout of the 2021 season, tying a single-season record.

Goalkeeper Lindsey Romig recorded three saves.

Tennessee took a 1-0 lead against the Bisons (15-5-1) when Abbey Burdette scored in the 28th minute. Claire Rain was credited with an assist on the marker, which gave the Lady Vols the advantage they enjoyed at halftime.

UT extended its lead to 2-0 in the 74th minute when Cariel Ellis scored off an assist from Huff.

Huff closed Tennessee’s scoring in the 75th minute. Maria Nelson was credited with an assist on the final tally of the match.
