Lady Vols defeat Georgia to even series

Tennessee softball defeats Georgia to even series.

No. 11 Tennessee defeated Georgia Saturday in Athens to even the Southeastern Conference series.

Tennessee (26-11, 8-5 SEC) scored nine runs over the first three innings en route to defeating the No. 16 Bulldogs (32-8,6-5), 11-5, at Jack Turner Stadium in Athens.

UT scored first when Zaida Puni came home when Ivy Davis reached on an error.

The Lady Vols extended its advantage to 3-0 when Kiki Milloy hit a two-run double. Milloy scored on a double by Lair Beautae to make it 4-0.

After surrendering a run in the bottom of the frame, UT would answer with five runs in the third inning. Katie Taylor scored when McKenna Gibson reached on an error. Kelcy Leach hit a three-run home run and Beautae recorded her second RBI double of the contest.

Gibson had a two-run home run for the Lady Vols in the fourth inning.

In the circle, Ryleigh White improved to 2-1 on the season, pitching three innings of scoreless relief. She gave up one hit and struck out five.

Erin Edmoundson started for Tennessee. She pitched two innings and yielded four runs, two hits and three walks, while striking out one.

She gave way to Bailey McCachren, who pitched two innings, surrendering one run, two hits and three walks.
