Tennessee (5-2-1, 1-0-0 SEC) won its fifth consecutive match Friday, defeating Florida 2-1 at Donald R. Dizney Stadium in Gainseville, Florida.
Friday’s contest was the SEC opener for both schools.
The Lady Vols scored twice in the first half.
Tennessee led 1-0 in the 19th minute. Mackenzie George scored her fourth goal of the season and Jaida Thomas was credited with an assist.
Claudia Dipasupil extended Tennessee’s advantage to 2-0, scoring a penalty kick in the 31st minute.
The Gators (2-6-0, 0-1-0 SEC) pulled to within 2-1 when Maddy Pirrello scored in the 70th minute.
Florida outshot the Lady Vols, 14-10.
The Gators recorded 10 shots on goal, while Tennessee totaled six.
Lady Vols’ goalkeeper Lindsey Romig finished the match with nine saves.
