Kirby Smart addresses Georgia’s ‘cupcake’ schedule critics: ‘Come play it’

Kirby Smart didn’t hesitate…

Georgia’s 2023 schedule continues to be criticized this offseason as “cupcake,” but head coach Kirby Smart did not hold back when asked about the notion on Tuesday at SEC media days.

“Come play it,” Smart said.

SEC schedules are never easy, but holding back-to-back national titles is bound to garner judgment. It’s not the Bulldogs fault they didn’t pull Alabama or LSU from the West. Those schools are listed behind UGA as favorites to win the SEC in 2023.

Georgia, who has the easiest SEC schedule according to CBS, will host South Carolina, Kentucky, Missouri and Ole Miss with road games versus Auburn, Vanderbilt, Florida and Tennessee.

The Bulldogs did have a road game scheduled with Oklahoma before the SEC nixed the matchup due to the Sooners joining the conference in 2024. The nonconference lineup is not intriguing as a result.

Georgia will host UT Martin, Ball State and UAB, with a road visit to Georgia Tech to cap the regular season.
