Kings’ Tyrese Haliburton calls it a dream come true to sign with Nike

Haliburton called it a dream come true to sign with Nike as the 12th overall pick became the latest rookie to ink a shoe deal.

Sacramento Kings guard Tyrese Haliburton called it a dream come true to sign with Nike as the 12th overall pick became the latest rookie to sign a shoe endorsement contract.

On Monday, Nick DePaula of ESPN reported Haliburton signed a multi-year shoe deal with Nike. Haliburton joins Anthony Edwards (adidas), LaMelo Ball (PUMA) and Onyeka Okongwu (adidas) to sign shoe deals.

Haliburton is the first known rookie to sign with Nike this season.

“I’m happy to be part of Nike,” Haliburton said. “I have been wearing them my whole life. That’s really cool for me, kinda like a dream come true and I’m excited about it. It’s just really cool. It’s kinda cool that they have faith in me and they like me enough to make me part of the brand.”

The news of signing comes amidst a slow period for endorsement deals this year, especially among the rookie class. Apparel companies are said to be scaling things back a bit this year due to a variety of factors, most notably because of the coronavirus pandemic.

While the details of Haliburton’s deal are not known, he jokingly confirmed that a signature shoe is not in the works.

“Yeah, I ain’t that nice yet,” Haliburton said. “I ain’t that nice. Maybe one day.”
