Sacramento Kings head coach Luke Walton said the organization remains optimistic regarding the left knee injury rookie Tyrese Haliburton suffered on Sunday.
Haliburton, who was ruled out of playing on Tuesday versus the Oklahoma City Thunder, exited Sunday night’s win over the Dallas Mavericks early after landing awkwardly on his left leg. He was in visible pain and eventually needed assistance to walk off of the court to the locker room.
Walton said following that contest that Haliburton would undergo an MRI on Monday to determine the severity of the injury. The team has not yet shared the results of the MRI as Walton said on Tuesday they are still in the process of gathering multiple medical opinions.
We are very optimistic still with Tyrese. We are working with multiple professionals as far as getting all of the opinions together. We have a whole group of our medical staff just making sure that all of the information that is given out is correct but we are optimistic.
Walton said the team hopes to share that information soon.
Haliburton had returned to the starting lineup recently in place of De’Aaron Fox, who is sidelined due to health and safety protocols. He was posting 18.5 points, nine assists and three rebounds over his last four games prior to the injury.
Haliburton, in 58 games played this season, is averaging 13 points, 5.3 assists and three rebounds. He ranks third in scoring average, second in assists, second in steals and third in 3-pointers among all rookie players.
