Kevin Durant, Steve Nash praise Patty Mills’ fast start to the season

Kevin Durant calls Patty Mills a “true pro through and through.”

Patty Mills has started off the season scorching hot from the field. In four games this season, the veteran has averaged 14.5 PPG on 64% accuracy from three and 53% shooting from the field overall.

Mills’ 10 consecutive made threes to open up the season was also the most threes made consecutively by any NBA player to start a season. Fortunately for the Nets, they were able to capitalize off of his efforts by picking up two wins in these four games.

Following a victory over the Wizards on Monday, Kevin Durant praised the former Spur for scoring 21 points off the bench.

“True pro through and through,” said Durant. “Just how he approaches his craft everyday is inspiring to anybody. Especially when you know his story and where he comes from. Just having that energy around everyday is amazing.”

On Sunday against the Charlotte Hornets, Mills scored only five points on 2-of-10 shooting from the field. Since the veteran’s 21 point explosion off the bench came after a poor outing against Charlotte, the one-time champion admitted that the way he asserted himself impacted his play.

“Just not being able to assert myself when I felt like I could have,” said Mills on what went wrong in the team’s Sunday matchup. “I didn’t want to let that happen again — I’ve understood over my time that it is a marathon of a season. You can’t necessarily nitpick certain things every game … There are some things I think you can definitely look at and improve on every game.” As Brooklyn continues to improve chemistry and continuity moving forward, the team is going to cherish each and every moment of the process. Patience is going to be key in these next coming week according to Mills.

“This is all new territory for me in the sense of obviously being here and working it all out. Figuring it all out. But, that’s probably the most exciting bit about this whole thing. Being able to talk about it and learn about it and chat about it with teammates to be able to get where we want to be — Patience is probably the thing that we need to have throughout this process.”
