Kevin Durant says he speaks with Klay Thompson ‘a couple of times a week’

While Klay Thompson recovers from his season-ending injury, the All-Star guard has been speaking with his former teammate Kevin Durant.

Through the Golden State Warriors’ recent stretch of games, Klay Thompson has joined the team on the bench while he recovers from a season-ending Achilles tear he suffered prior to the start of training camp. On Saturday. Thompson watched as Kevin Durant made his first appearance at Chase Center since joining the Brooklyn Nets.

In his return to the Bay Area, Durant tallied 20 points on 8-of-19 shooting from the field with six assists, five rebounds and two blocks in Brooklyn’s 134-117 victory.

Following his highly-anticipated return to the Bay Area for a tilt between the Nets and Warriors on Saturday night, Durant told members of the media that he is talking with Thompson “a couple of times a week” during his rehab.

Me and Klay talk pretty often, a couple of times a week. It’s good to see him starting to walk and getting his boot. Obviously, I know what that process is like. He’s chomping at the bit to get back out on the court and start shooting. Can’t wait to see him back out there.

Durant suffered the same injury as Thompson in the 2019 NBA Finals with Golden State. Durant’s Achilles rehab lasted through the entire 2019-20 season.

Durant’s recovery could be a positive example of Thompson’s potential road back to the court. After missing a season due to injury, Durant has quickly returned to form. To start the 2020-21 campaign, Durant is averaging 29 points on 52.45 shooting from the field with 7.3 rebounds and 5.3 rebounds per contest.
