It took a little more time and paperwork than originally anticipated, but the NFL has now accepted Kerby Joseph’s rookie contract with the Detroit Lions. The team had to refile his original deal due to a minor technicality that the league refused to overlook.
There were apparently issues with the language surrounding the workout bonuses in the final three years of the deal. It’s uncommon for the league to reject deals on this basis but it happens every year. The NFL also forced the Steelers and 49ers to refile rookie deals for Day 2 picks from the 2022 NFL draft.
The full details, reported by Aaron Wilson of Pro Football Network:
- $5.044 million total contract over four years
- $849,020 signing bonus
- $705,000 base salary in 2022, escalating up to $1.357 million in the 2025 season
- Workout bonuses beginning in 2023
