Kentucky baseball stays hot versus Eastern Kentucky

Kentucky baseball got another win against the Eastern Kentucky Colonels on Wednesday

The Kentucky Wildcats baseball team continued its red-hot start to the season on Wednesday evening. After beating the Eastern Kentucky Colonels on Tuesday in Lexington, the Cats traveled to Richmond for the re-match.

After blowing the Colonels out on Tuesday, it was closer in game two. The Wildcats, however, did get the win, this time by a score of 5 – 2.

Kentucky opened the scoring with a sac fly in the first inning, but EKU answered in the bottom of the inning, then took the lead in the sixth. Nick Lopez tied it on a fielder’s choice. Then, in the eighth, Reuben Church had the biggest hit of the game, doubling in two runs before Lopez added one more run in the ninth.

It was an interesting day for Lopez, who didn’t have a hit in the game, but drove in three runs. Two of his RBIs came on sac flies, and the other came on a fielder’s choice. Emilien Pitre had two hits on the day, and stole a base. Devin Burkes had a hit and scored a run.

Kentucky’s pitching was very good once again. Eastern Kentucky had just four hits and both of their runs were unearned. The Wildcats bullpen didn’t allow a hit over the last three innings to close it out.

Up next for Kentucky is a three game weekend series against Kennesaw State. That will be played in Lexington.
