Keeping a clean pocket for Ryan Tannehill paid dividends for Titans in 2019

No surprise here: Ryan Tannehill thrived with a clean pocket in 2019.

Ryan Tannehill recorded the best season of his career in 2019, and has become the Tennessee Titans’ quarterback of the future after signing a four-year deal worth $118 million this week.

Tannehill led the NFL in multiple categories, including passer rating (117.5).

The Titans’ offensive line has grown tremendously over recent seasons, and when it was at its best by giving Tannehill a clean pocket to throw from, the quarterback led the league in passer rating in that category as well (122.8).

And it wasn’t necessarily close.

This overall grade on Pro Football Focus’ list placed Tannehill ahead of the New Orleans Saints’ Drew Brees (120.7) and Matthew Stafford of the Detroit Lions (120.0).

Tannehill also outperformed the rest of the NFL’s quarterbacks in play-action passer rating (140.6), yards per attempt (9.6), adjusted yards gained per pass attempt (10.2) and yards per completion (13.6) last year.

The Titans will look for continued success from Tannehill in the upcoming 2020 season as they aim to build off of the momentum of 2019.

After all, they paid a pretty penny for it, didn’t they?
