Justin Herbert lands with new team in 2020 NFL Draft re-do

Hindsight is 20/20 as Draftwire.com redrafted the Class of 2020 and Justin Herbert should have gone higher than No. 6.

Everyone knew as they watched quarterback Justin Herbert at Oregon that something was missing, but no one could put their finger on exactly what that was.

Herbert was great in that 2019 season as he led the Ducks to a Rose Bowl victory over Wisconsin. But he wasn’t a Heisman contender although he possessed Heisman talent.

Despite all that, Herbert was drafted by the Los Angeles Chargers as that organization felt like they could unlock whatever cheat code Herbert had in order for the Eugene native to see his full potential.

The cheat code worked as Herbert is well on his way to becoming a great NFL quarterback and the best signal caller the Chargers have had since Dan Fouts.

But now we can look back and see what if Herbert was drafted perhaps where he should have been. That’s exactly what USA TODAY’s Draft Wire did as they “redrafted” the Class of 2020.

Knowing what we know now, Herbert would have gone No. 2 to the Washington Commanders instead of edge rusher Chase Young. Washington wishes they had drafted Herbert as Young hasn’t exactly played like a No. 2 overall selection, missing most of last season with a knee injury.

But would the Commanders have unlocked Herbert’s complete potential like the Chargers have? We’ll never know. Luckily for the Oregon Duck great, he landed in a great spot, close to home.
